Claudia Franken

Claudia Franken has worked as teacher and lecturer for more than twenty years and coordinated the LLP-project Eguidya. She is Programme Responsible of Studium Generale, Volkshochschule Aachen, Germany. In her practical and theoretical work her interests include key competence development, especially for disadvantaged young adults, and philosophies of learning. In the field of literature and the other arts, her research interest focusses on the interrelations of the culture of the underclasses and of European avantgarde. As the American drama film Precious (2009, based on the 1996 novel Push by the former social worker Sapphire) makes clear to a wider audience, much of what we believe in as standards of communication may not exist for young people who live in poverty, far away from social inclusion, solid education and regular work.
